Among the objects of Karosta, Liepāja’s coastal artillery battery No. 2, is still the most mysterious place in Liepāja.

Battery No. 2, unlike the Northern Forts, was built further from the coastline and protected by a high rampart. For protection providing were placed 16 mortars of the model M1877 sized 11-inch (280 mm). In battery No. 2, ammunition depots for the troops of the various existing powers were always installed. Due to the danger of explosions, the territory has been an object of very limited access for 130 years and a territory closed to the public, which has been strictly guarded.

The set of buildings of coastal battery No. 2, has completely preserved its historical charm and architectural scope. A separate part of the exhibition will give a small idea of the activities of the headquarters of the 1st Kurzeme Division from 1919–1940. Reproductions of historical photographs from the Latvian War Museum of the 1st Liepāja Infantry Regiment, the 2nd Ventspils Infantry Regiment and the Kurzeme Artillery Regiment are placed in the exposition.

Visitors of Liepāja’s Coast Artillery Battery No. 2, will be allowed into the territory only accompanied by guides: at 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, and 16.00.

Excursions are available in Latvian, Russian, and English.
The duration of the tour is 45 to 60 minutes.

Liepāja’s coastal artillery battery No. 2 is partially accessible to people with functional disabilities. The buildings have rooms with narrow doors and high thresholds.
