On the summer solstice, when the longest day is followed by the shortest night, Latvians celebrate Jāņi – the most joyful celebration of the year. In honor of this occasion, fences are decorated and wreaths are woven. Once all the preparations for Jāņi are complete, people gather to celebrate. You’ll find beautiful items and delicious treats for a festive celebration at our Summer Solstice Fair in the Square of Roses.

This year, the fair dedicated to the Midsummer holiday will take place over two days: June 20 from 10:00 to 18:00, and June 21 from 10:00 to 16:00. As is customary in Latvia, a true celebration isn’t complete without a feast! At the fair, you’ll have the chance to purchase locally brewed beer, cider, and kvass, sheep and goat cheese, smoked fish and meats, country bread, sklandrauši and flatbreads, homemade wine, honey, sheep’s milk ice cream, and many other local delicacies from producers in Liepāja, Kuldīga, Jelgava, Talsi, Sigulda, Tukums, Ogre, and other regions. For the first time, SIA “Baltu Piens” from Kazdanga will join the fair, offering their fresh cheese rolls.

You’ll also find ecological meat products smoked with alder wood — including popular country bacon, smoked chicken, groat sausages, BBQ spices, hemp products, seed and nut mixes, candied fruit, and refreshing homemade wines, ciders, and mead made from seasonal berries.
Don’t miss the chance to taste hand-kneaded, freshly baked bread. You’ll also be able to pick up the famous Brenguļi beer and home-brewed Bārtas beer, as well as mountain ash syrup and zapti (traditional preserves).

A wide selection of handicrafts will be available to decorate your festive table: beautiful linen tablecloths, braids, wooden items, Latvian-made cosmetics, lovely scarves and hats, and jewellery crafted from stone, pearls, and silver — not to mention floral wreaths.

For a festive and stylish celebration, there will also be a special focus on women’s and children’s clothing, including homemade linen dresses, delicate embroidery, hand-painted fabrics, knitted hats, belts, and bags made by local artisans.

Expect a variety of wooden goods and Midsummer bonfire logs engraved with Latvian symbols and humorous messages. Modern black-and-white ceramic tableware will also be featured. Plus, you’ll find souvenirs for all who visit and for everyone hosting guests during the holiday.

We warmly invite everyone to the big Summer Solstice artisan and homemade goods fair in Liepāja, at Rožu laukums! Let’s celebrate Midsummer with joy and togetherness!
