Liepāja invites residents and visitors to enjoy the evening walk “Illuminated Liepāja. Conscious Moderation,” which, over four evenings, will transform the familiar cityscape into something extraordinary — reshaped by light. This year, the light walk route will illuminate both sides of the Trade Canal, stretching from the Tramway Bridge to the Pilot Tower. Light objects will also be displayed in the city centre, where streets, buildings, and squares will become a stage for creative installations, projections, and stories told through light.

This year’s walk is inspired by Liepāja’s thematic line as a European Capital of Culture — “Conscious Moderation.” The light installations will highlight issues of climate and sustainable development, encouraging reflection on everyday habits and their impact on the environment. Special emphasis will be placed on the Baltic Sea, which for Liepāja is both a source of pride and a responsibility.

For the first time in the history of the Light Walk, visitors will be treated to a large-scale laser performance. Various lighting technologies will be used in the installations and objects, several of which will be interactive, inviting participation from both residents and visitors.

Light will become a means of speaking about balance and care — values that begin with small, conscious steps. Sea creatures, plants, and other inhabitants of the Baltic Sea, as if carried ashore by the wind, will appear to emerge from the water as mysterious silhouettes, moving projections, or colourful light accents, allowing the imagination to dive into an underwater world usually hidden from view.

Local entrepreneurs will also take part in “Illuminated Liepāja. Conscious Moderation” by lighting up colourful displays in their windows and creating projections on their building façades, further enriching this year’s route. The evening walk can also be combined with a delicious break — restaurants and cafés in Liepāja will offer special “wind cakes” created especially for the event evenings. Meanwhile, curious visitors will have the opportunity to join free guided tours and learn more about the locations and buildings hosting the light installations.

The walk “Illuminated Liepāja. Conscious Moderation” invites residents and visitors to experience the city transformed by light artists on March 18, 19, 20, and 21, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
