This spring, 6,500 young people from more than 200 Latvian dance groups will make their way to Liepāja to experience the splendour of Latvian stage dance traditions and the joy of dancing together. The 2nd Latvian Youth Dance Festival concert “One Horizon. Thousands of Roads” will take place at Daugava Stadium on the evening of 23 May.
This will be the largest gathering of young dancers on the road to the XXVIII Latvian Song and XVIII Dance Festival in 2028.
Although at first the horizon may seem like a finish line — something to cross triumphantly after overcoming yourself and defeating others — this first impression is misleading. The horizon is the direction in which to go. It is an ever-distant destination to which thousands of roads lead. Each road is unique. It is a step full of courage and determination into the unknown, to discover and improve oneself again and again. The horizon is a dream.
The choreographies selected for the festival concert will reveal the importance of a safe stepping stone, the confidence of feeling that “the sea is knee-deep”, and the theme of infinity — eternal dreaming and movement. Their authors are Aija Baumane, Dagmāra Bārbale, Krišjānis Bite, Diāna Gavare, Dāvis Ērglis, Guna Trukšāne, Gunta Skuja, Harijs Sūna, Jānis Ērglis, Jānis Purviņš, Laura Pavilone, Lilija Lipora, Māris Konstants, Uldis Žagata, and Velta Lodiņa.
The creative team of the festival includes artistic directors Dagmāra Bārbale and Jānis Purviņš, director Matīss Budovskis, libretto and text author Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce, as well as regional and 2nd Youth Dance Festival chief directors.
Just like 20 years ago, the 2nd Youth Dance Festival in Liepāja is organised in close cooperation by the Latvian National Centre for Culture, Liepāja City Municipality, and the Liepāja Folk Art and Culture Centre. This year, it will take place at the same time as the Līva Village Festival, beloved by Liepāja residents and city guests alike.
Tickets for the event are available through the “Biļešu Paradīze” ticket network.
During the event, photos and/or videos will be taken for the purpose of sharing information about the event in the media and in informational materials. The materials obtained may be used for publicity and public information purposes. The event organiser assumes no responsibility for photos and/or videos taken by third parties or for their use.
