To mark its 30th anniversary in Latvia, the passenger transport company Lux Express Latvia will host a Retro Bus Festival in Riga and Liepaja.

“The story of Lux Express and Lux Express Latvia is an excellent example of how the passion of one person – company founder Hugo Ozulas – for public transport and buses has developed into a company whose services are highly valued by passengers in many countries. An interesting fact is that Lux Express Latvia is the company with the longest experience in managing international bus routes in the Latvian market,” said Aldis Ķibēns, Member of the Board of Lux Express Latvia.

To celebrate its passion for public transport and its milestone anniversary, Lux Express Latvia will display retro buses from Hugo Ozulas’ personal collection, including the Ikarus 55-14 Lux, Ikarus 255, Setra S6, Setra S80, and Ikarus 55-52.

Visitors will also be able to view the new Irizar i6s Efficient, which operates on the Rīga–Liepāja and Liepāja–Daugavpils routes.

On 16 August in Liepāja, the event will take place from 14:00 to 18:00 in the car park at Zivju Street 1/4. Visitors will not only be able to view the retro buses but also take a short ride in one of them.

Lux Express – 30 Years in Latvia
Lux Express Latvia has been an important player in the Latvian passenger transport sector since 1995, when it began international operations under the name SIA Baltijas Autobusu Līnijas. The first routes connected Rīga with cities such as Munich and Bremen.

In subsequent years, the company rapidly expanded throughout Europe, working in cooperation with Eurolines and launching new routes to cities including Cologne, Rome, Venice, and Kraków. As the network expanded, the company was renamed Lux Express Latvia.

In response to changing market conditions in the late 2000s, Lux Express shifted its strategic focus from long-distance routes to shorter, high-quality regional connections.

Today, Lux Express Latvia is the longest-operating international bus line operator in the Latvian market. In 2024, after ten years of sustained effort, the company successfully launched commercial domestic routes in Latvia, a significant milestone for the development of the local market.

Lux Express Latvia continues to operate international services to destinations including Tallinn, Vilnius, Tartu, Klaipėda, and Warsaw, offering passengers reliable, comfortable, and modern travel solutions across the region.

Lux Express Group is an international bus operator providing long-distance routes to major Baltic cities and Warsaw, as well as domestic passenger transport services in Latvia and Estonia. Its fleet consists of 105 high-comfort coaches.
