Liepāja City Municipality invites everyone to the park festival “Liepāja Without Barriers”, which will take place on Sunday, 23 August, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Liepāja Seaside Park, opposite the children’s playground. The event will provide an opportunity for Liepāja residents and visitors alike, including families, people with disabilities, children and people of different generations, to meet, spend time actively and enjoy a day together where everyone is welcome and can feel a sense of belonging.
The main idea behind the park festival is to promote an inclusive society in which diversity is seen as a value and everyone has the opportunity to take part in the event’s activities. The name “Liepāja Without Barriers” symbolises the aspiration to create an environment where physical, social and attitudinal barriers are reduced.
During the event, visitors can look forward to a varied programme in four thematic zones – sound, touch, scent and movement:
- creative workshops for children and adults;
- forest therapy and other movement activities;
- educational activities organised by various organisations;
- opportunities to learn more about initiatives by non-governmental organisations;
- musical performances;
- virtual reality experiences;
- an exhibition of creative works;
- showdown demonstrations and other activities aimed at encouraging cooperation, interaction and spending time together.
Special attention will be given to ensuring that the event is engaging and welcoming for everyone – children, seniors, people with disabilities, families and anyone who would like to be part of the event.
“The idea for the social inclusion event “Liepāja Without Barriers” received public support within the framework of the 2025 Participatory Budget, with the aim of bringing together different groups of Liepāja residents through a variety of activities. In keeping with this idea, the municipality also wants the event to become a place and time where people focus not on differences, but on getting to know one another, working together and creating positive experiences. The purpose of the festival is to unite and engage people and to strengthen the understanding that apparent differences and diversity can bring us together rather than divide us,” says Elīna Tolmačova, Head of the Environment, Health and Public Participation Division of Liepāja Central Administration.
The event is free of charge, and everyone is welcome to participate.
The social inclusion event was created as a result of a public vote within the framework of Liepāja City Municipality’s 2025 Participatory Budget. The event is organised by Liepāja City Municipality in cooperation with event agency SIA “Šarmants”.
