Liepāja 2027 Launches Open Call for Environmental Artworks in Kuldīga and Aizpute
The foundation “Liepāja 2027” has announced an open, co-financed artistic competition, “Creation of Environmental Art Installations in Kuldīga and Aizpute”, welcoming artists and creative teams to join the creation of contemporary, sustainable environmental artworks in Kurzeme.

The competition aims to encourage artists to explore both the shared characteristics and distinctive identities of Aizpute and Kuldīga, resulting in high-quality artistic solutions that will form a lasting legacy of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme. Two environmental art objects are planned – one in Kuldīga and one in Aizpute.

Proposals are expected to engage with the overarching theme of “(un)rest”, while reflecting the region’s identity and bridging cultural dialogue and cooperation across Kurzeme. The selected works should integrate organically into the urban landscape, becoming meaningful and enduring elements of public space.

The competition offers co-financing of up to €35,000 for the implementation of the artwork in Kuldīga and up to €20,000 for the project in Aizpute. In addition, prize awards will be granted for the strongest concepts: €700 for first place, €500 for second place, and €300 for third place. These prizes recognise the quality of the ideas submitted and are not considered remuneration for the production or installation of the artworks. Receipt of a prize does not entail any obligation for the author to transfer property rights.

For further information regarding the Aizpute location, applicants are invited to contact Ieva Sīpola, Liepāja 2027 South Kurzeme Region Cooperation Coordinator (phone +37128858245; email: ieva.sipola@liepaja2027.lv ), whereas, enquiries concerning the Kuldīga location can be addressed to Agnese Lapsiņa, Kuldīga Region Cooperation Coordinator for Liepāja 2027 (phone +37126198759; email: agnese.lapsina@liepaja2027.lv).

Applications must be submitted by 1 June 2026 at 23:59 to birojs@liepaja2027.lv and/or anna.liga.ermansone@liepaja2027.lv.
