On Saturday, January 31, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, the 17th–19th century interior museum “Madame Hoyer’s Guest House” in Liepāja invites visitors to celebrate Bread Day.

Once again, traditional sweet-and-sour rye bread will be baked in the historic house’s bread oven. The oven will be lit around 10:00 AM, so visitors interested in observing the bread-baking process are encouraged to arrive early. Freshly baked bread will be available for tasting and purchase starting at 12:00 PM.

At 1:00 PM, a live musical performance will take place at Restaurant “Hoijeres krogs”, featuring kokle music and original compositions inspired by Latvian folk traditions. The performance will include both original works and improvised interpretations, as well as contemporary arrangements of traditional folk songs.

The kokle, a traditional Latvian string instrument, has long been regarded as sacred, with its sound believed to induce a meditative state in listeners. Although seemingly simple, the instrument offers an infinite range of tonal colours, shaped by the performer’s individuality.

The 17th–19th century interior museum “Madame Hoyer’s Guest House” views the revival of historical practices and traditions as one of its key missions. Regularly held Bread Days are an important way of preserving and promoting Latvia’s gastronomic heritage.

For this occasion, Restaurant “Hoijeres krogs” will also offer a special pancake menu created exclusively for the event. Visitors will be able to enjoy both sweet and savory pancakes, including crispy potato pancakes with bacon or jam, thin pancakes filled with savory fillings and served with sour cream, as well as a variety of sweet pancakes accompanied by a rich selection of jams—sure to delight visitors of all ages.

Please note that photography and video filming will take place during the event. The recorded materials may be used for publicity purposes on the websites and social media channels of the Liepāja Interior Museum and the Liepāja Museum.
