On Saturday, May 17, as the sun sets and the stars shine, Liepāja will come alive with a diverse program of events, unforgettable moments, and a unique opportunity to explore the city’s rich cultural heritage under the cover of night.
In the evening and night of May 17, the garden of the Liepāja Museum (Kūrmājas pr. 16/18) will host an engaging program for the whole family. Activities include free carousels for children (“Brīnumu pasaule”), concerts by students of the Liepāja Pop Rock School, performances by the groups “Sub Scriptum” and “Dzelzs vilks”, a show by “Monday in Space”, street gymnastics demonstrations, and an outdoor café by the restaurant “Oskars” open throughout the evening.
Inside the museum, visitors can enjoy creative workshops, meet artist Andris Vītoliņš, observe master craftsmen at work, listen to the magical sounds of ethnokokle, learn the secrets of Rucava white butter, participate in scarf-tying activities, and much more.
The Liepāja Interior Museum (Kungu iela 24) will invite guests to savor the treats and potions of the Hoijeres pub, participate in a master class by Varkalis Juris Kambars, and join Kristīne Cukura’s ceramics workshop. Additional attractions include a children’s performance by the Liepāja Traveling Puppet Theatre “Maska”, a concert by the Latvian ecological music group “Ducele”, and a duet performance by Dzintars Beitans (violin) and Egons Kronbergs (guitar). Inside the museum, visitors can enjoy the sounds of the country chapel “Paurupīte”, watch baker Aivars Ozols at the bread oven, and end the evening with a fire juggling show.
Meanwhile, at the Liepāja Occupation Museum (K. Ukstiņa iela 7/9), the Museum Night Stage will feature concerts by the Liepāja Youth Rock and Roll ensembles of the Children and Youth Center, “Purva Šamaņi”, musician Žoržs Siksna, and “Liepājnieku roks” performed by DJ Mārčis Grīnbarts. Visitors can also enjoy snacks provided by the Liepāja State Technical School, try the climbing wall, meet bikers, watch the animated film series “Avārijas brigāde” by Animācijas brigāde, and attend night poetry readings.
At Karosta Prison (Invalīdu iela 4), visitors will be invited to experience an immersive museum night where history, mystery, and culture meet. The program includes historical figures, storytelling, photography in historical costumes, creative workshops for children and adults, and exhibitions of authentic and artistically decorated prison cells.
Nighttime excitement continues elsewhere in Liepāja. RTU Liepāja Academy (Lielā iela 14) will host “Value is Not Just a Number”, an event exploring the connections between mathematics and rhythm, art, identity, culture, and human connection through music, dance, and storytelling.
In celebration of the 105th anniversary of the Liepāja State Technical School, its museum at Vānes Street 16 will open its main exhibition, featuring a 1920s fashion showcase created by fourth-year Costume Making and Style Specialist students, as well as the school’s digital photo archive. The Technical School Gathering Information Point will also be open.
Golta Creative House (Fr. Brīvzemnieka iela 26) will display paintings by Liepāja artist Miķelis Golts (1922–2007), offer courtyard and basement tours, host the creative workshop “Create Your Masterpiece, Inspired by Golts’ Art”, and present the movement performance “Window Story” multiple times.
The Liepāja music space-gallery “Vinilkoks” (Avotu iela 4) will exhibit “The Work of Composer Raimonds Pauls on Record and Photographs”, curated by collector Raits Pavlovičs, and feature photographic works by Aigars Hibners. Music by the Maestro and iconic Liepāja artists will be performed, with Valdis Skujiņš, founder of the ensemble “Credo”, welcoming guests with coffee and an exhibition.
Klubs “Kursa” (Zvejnieku aleja 11) will host the Retro Vehicle Festival “Retro Liepāja 2025”, showcasing historical cars and motorbikes, with activities for all ages. In the evening, the “Rock Revolution” festival will offer performances by renowned local bands, followed by a night of DJ sets in a rock atmosphere.
During the European Museum Night in Liepāja, the night train “Libau Train” will also be running.
