Memorial sign at the bollard in the port of Liepāja, marking the location of the symbolic restoration of the Latvian Navy 30 years ago, on 11 April 1992.
Upon the rebuilding of the Liepāja Marina in 2020, the historic bollard and berth where on 25 July 1940 the free Latvian submarine “Ronis” was last berthed were both preserved and restored.
This location marks the actual demise of the Latvian Navy, yet it also marks the place where the former captain of the submarine “Ronis”, Hugo Legzdiņš, raised the Latvian Navy flag once again on the first ship of the restored Latvian Navy, “Sams”.
