Karosta is the largest historical military territory in the Baltic and accounts for nearly one-third of the total Liepāja city administrative territory. The orienteering ground created in Karosta will help you to learn more about this part of the city.
The orienteering routes comprise the biggest part of the Karosta territory, ranging from the Oskars Kalpaks Bridge to the former munitions warehouses, a total of six square kilometres. Forty-three stationary checkpoints have been scattered around the territory, prompting access to former military sites and surrounding of all kinds.
The ground has three different distances in length and complexity
- 3.45 km, along with 7 checkpoints. Suitable for families with children. For the most part, the checkpoints are located around the most popular tourism and military sites of Karosta.
- 8.2 km with 20 checkpoints. Suitable for longer walks or running workouts. The distance covers most of the urban area of Karosta.
- 16 km with 43 checkpoints. The distance includes both the urban part of Karosta and the surrounding forests with intense terrain requiring you to have sophisticated orientation skills.
There is also an optional distance, where each can draw up the preferred route. You can adjust the length of the distance and the order of visiting the checkpoints by visiting only part of the objects. It is important to mark the starting and finishing points so that the number of points visited and the time spent on the distance are recorded.
